SEPTEMBER 1, 2014
The George C. Stewart house at 196 Hot Springs Road in Montecito, California was a quick stop for a photo on Labor Day. Leah and I were traveling back to Los Angeles from Paso Robles after a weekend of wine tasting when I remembered that there was an FLW house near Santa Barbara. Until we were in Santa Barbara and looking for the address, I hadn’t realized that T.C. Boyle, author of The Women, was the home’s owner. The Women is the story of Frank Lloyd Wright’s life told by the women in his life.
Our visit to the Stewart House provoked me to dust off my copy of The Women. I started it several years ago when Leah was attending USC (where Boyle was teaching) and then lost it. It turned up a year later under the passenger seat of my car, and I shelved it. I am looking forward to the read. We only got a photo from the street, but I doubt the associated discovery is over. Boyle seems to be interesting on his own, and I hope to enjoy an exploration of his work, as well.
